Subject: Update on Math Course Offerings at Cody Middle School
Dear Parents/Guardians of Cody Middle School Students,
I hope this message finds you well. As we gear up for the upcoming academic year, I wanted to take a moment to share some important updates regarding our 6th-grade math curriculum and course offerings.
After a thorough review of our staffing needs and course offerings, Cody Middle School (CMS) has made the determination that it is not feasible to allow 6th-grade students to bypass the 6th-grade math course (Foundations). We believe that a strong foundation in mathematics is crucial for students' academic growth and future success. As such, all 6th-grade students will be required to successfully complete 6th-grade math at CMS before entering the 7th grade.
I want to assure you that our commitment to providing the best possible education for every student remains unwavering. For those students who are considered advanced in mathematics, our dedicated 6th-grade teachers will continue to challenge them appropriately. Our teachers are skilled in planning instruction that caters to each student's individual needs, ensuring that every child can thrive and reach their full potential. We are also partnering with our District’s GATE teachers to provide project-based learning extensions and opportunities to those students who may demonstrate above grade level proficiency in math.
Students who demonstrate advanced number sense and mathematical skills will receive instruction that draws from both the 6th and 7th-grade standards. This approach aims to foster a deeper understanding of mathematics and prepare students for more advanced math concepts and courses at the middle and high school level.
As we move forward, please be aware that we are diligently reviewing our staffing and curriculum offerings throughout the academic year. Our goal is to maintain the availability of advanced math classes for students at the 7th and 8th-grade levels. We are actively working to ensure that we can continue to offer a range of math courses, including 6th-grade (Foundations) math , 7th-grade (Structural) math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I.
Your partnership and support are crucial in this endeavor, and we remain committed to providing the best education for your child. If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value your input and are here to address any inquiries you may have.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Together, we will continue to create a dynamic and enriching learning environment at Cody Middle School.
Sincerely,
Jacob R. Gogan

Welcome back from the Nurse at Cody Middle School!
Part of our annual back-to-school preparation includes reviewing records for immunization compliance and updating health plans for students with medical conditions.
Immunization Compliance:
Park6 will need proof of immunization compliance or exemption within the first 30 days of the start of school or your student will be excluded from school per Wyoming Statute. WDH has partnered with "Docket" to make access to your records easier. See this link for information regarding an app that you can download to access your students immunization records.
https://health.wyo.gov/need-back-to-school-vaccination-records-try-new-wdh-app/
If your student is returning to Park6, their records should already be on file. However, students who are 12 or older, will need a TDap booster to remain in compliance. I will be sending out notifications to parents if I identify missing records or the need for immunization documentation.
If your student is new to Park6, please make sure that you provide a copy of immunization records to the nurse.
Medications and Health Care Plans:
If your student has physician orders related to Asthma, Diabetes, Serious Allergic Reaction, or Epilepsy a copy of these orders is necessary in order for school personnel to best care for your student. Copies of forms can be picked up from the nurse or found on the Student Health page: https://www.park6.org/page/student-health
Reminder: Per Board Policy, all medications (with the exception of some emergency medications) must be stored in the nurse's office and will require orders and/or parent signature in order to be administered.
If you would like your student to have access to over-the-counter medication for headaches, etc., you will need to bring in a supply as well as complete an over-the counter medication form.
Copies of forms can be picked up from the nurse or found on the Student Health page: https://www.park6.org/page/student-health
Please return completed forms to the Middle School Nurse at your earliest convenience. Please reach out with any questions you may have.
Here's to a healthy 2023-2024 School year.
