At Wapiti Elementary, we believe that all children can learn and achieve high levels of academic growth. It is our job to create a conducive classroom environment where this type of learning can take place. We work collaboratively with colleagues, students, parents, and our community to achieve this shared educational purpose. At Wapiti we are “working together for excellence in learning.”
We care about each student and are dedicated to providing an education that allows all of our students to succeed. Our highly qualified teachers work with students in a small class setting that allows them to personalize their teaching strategies. We also have an amazingly supportive community that helps us daily. In addition to fundraising and volunteering, they help us provide extracurricular opportunities for our students and even prepare homemade lunches for us once-a-week. At Wapiti you’re not just part of our school; you’re part of our family!
In the Park County School District, Wapiti Elementary is constantly working to improve student education. Our district goals are:
- All K–5 students will be proficient readers.
- All students will exhibit positive behaviors in school.
- All K–5 students will be proficient in mathematics.
Special Programs at Wapiti
Our positive behavior model, SOAR (Safety, Ownership, Attitude, Respect), maximizes academic achievement by expecting students to:
- Be safe
- Take responsibility for their actions and words
- Choose a productive attitude
- Respect themselves and those around them
We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, students excel in learning. As part of the SOAR program, we have established clear rules for appropriate behavior in all areas of the school, and we explicitly teach those expectations to our students. Once students understand what we expect of them, our teachers enjoy rewarding appropriate behavior with positive notes (Drops in the Bucket) and fun activities.
Drops in the Bucket
Drops in the Bucket are Wapiti incentives students earn when they follow behavior expectations throughout the school. Students exchange their “drops” to “buy” items from our Drop Store. Students may buy special treats like popcorn, stickers, or pencils. Or entire classes can pool their resources to purchase an extra recess for their class.
Sleeping Giant (a local ski area) for instruction and fun on the slopes.
