HOME OF THE COLTS

Welcome to Sunset Elementary School in Cody, Wyoming! We are located in the Big Horn Basin of northwestern Wyoming, 50 miles east of Yellowstone National Park. We are happy to serve kindergarten through fifth grade students from Cody and the surrounding areas.

Our Sunset teachers and staff focus on ensuring all students succeed at high levels by providing engaging, relevant, and meaningful work. We all understand that it truly takes a village to raise a child and we know the importance of uniting with parents and community partners to help every child succeed.

Along with a dedicated staff, our Sunset PTO is instrumental in supporting our students and endeavors at Sunset School. Parents and teachers work together to fund raise for unique needs and to offer engaging events for our students.

Spend a few moments perusing our web site. We have information about our school, breakfast and lunch menus, school events and activities, and ways for parents to be involved. Sunset Elementary School is a place where your child will gain a strong academic foundation and build good character along the way.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

I am proud of everyone within our school and family community as we continue to educate our students. While we are in the business of educating, our first priority is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families.

At Sunset Elementary School, we are committed to making this school year a successful experience for every single student. At the forefront of this goal is the necessity of the home and school partnership. Learning is a very complex endeavor! It involves, sharing ideas, making mistakes and attempting new, challenging experiences. Learning involves an admirable work ethic by everyone, the staff, the parent, the principals, but most importantly the student!

At Sunset, we value and challenge each student and provide opportunities for success. Instruction is based on the Wyoming Content Standards. We focus on the Park 6 Mission, Vision, Beliefs and Goals, which include equipping our students for career and college readiness, as well as sustaining a positive culture. Our students well being and development, academically, socially, and emotionally, is at the heart of what we do.

Research and experience show us that a parent/guardian’s involvement in a child’s education directly relates to their success in school. To maximize your child's success, emphasize the importance of education through the following:

●Ensure your child is at school, on time, each day.

●Stay in constant contact with your child’s teacher.

●Read with your child or encourage your child to read daily.

●Support your child in their academic and social endeavors.

In addition, there are numerous volunteer opportunities in which you can be involved. Volunteers make a tremendously positive impact and enrich our school. Contact your child’s teacher or our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) if you’d like to volunteer in any way.

I look forward to partnering with you to make the school year successful for you, our staff, and most importantly our students. Thank you for all of your support and commitment to our students, both academically, but also with their health and well-being. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office at 307.587.4279.

Sincerely,

Jay McCarten

Principal
