FAMILY RESOURCES
We’ve gathered resources online and within the community to help families of gifted students better understand what giftedness is and how to best support their gifted learners.
GIFTED EDUCATION
The mission of the Park County School District 6 Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) program is to chart a course that launches students on a lifelong journey of learning. Learn more about our services and how to recommend a student for G.A.T.E.
THE G.A.T.E. VISION
Park County School District #6 is committed to developing responsible learners with skills and knowledge to succeed in an ever-changing world. The district recognizes that some students have the potential for performing at remarkably high levels when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. These students have needs that require unique learning experiences.
The district will provide tailored instructional services, known collectively as Gifted And Talented Education (G.A.T.E.), for intellectually gifted and talented students from kindergarten through grade twelve. We have designed these services to meet their unique academic, social, emotional, and creative needs. G.A.T.E. will provide them with opportunities for exploring, experiencing, and expressing as well as developing a sense of individual responsibility to the school community and to society.
DISTRICT GUIDELINES
All children and youth have the right to develop their full capabilities. The school district recognizes that each child has the right to an education that respects individual rights and learning styles.
All children and youth in Wyoming need opportunities to develop their individual talents, and the gifted and talented are no exception. The complex nature of giftedness may manifest itself through the interplay of many different intellectual abilities as well as through a variety of creative expression and non-academic talents. Giftedness implies that each gifted child is distinctly different from children in general and from other gifted children, yet their unique abilities and interests are found in every cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic group. Gifted and talented individuals have demonstrated abilities which give evidence of high performance capability in one or more of the following categories:
General intelligence
Specific academic aptitude
Creative thinking
Leadership
Visual, literary, or performing arts
The school district will strive to identify these students and make available appropriate educational opportunities.
